Regina Margot

In timpul Noptii Sfantului Bartolomeu, regina Margareta de Navara ascunde si ingrijeste un tanar protestant scapat din masacru. Tanarul La Mole si frumoasa regina traiesc o scurta si intensa poveste de dragoste, cu final tragic.

Regina Margot ramane, mai presus de toate, romanul dragostei si al prieteniei. Doamna de Monsoreau

Tradari, razboaie religioase, intrigi politice, comploturi, ambitii, destine contradictorii, iubiri, si sentimente exacerbate, fac ca, in 1578, Franta sa fie un regat in deriva.

Contele de Monsoreau, un apropiat al monarhului, se indragosteste de tanara domnisoara Diane de Meridor. Desi aceasta nu-i impartaseste sentimentele, el obtine, de la tatal fetei, prin inselaciune, acceptul casatoriei.
Diane se resemeneaza intr-o casnicie fara iubire, pana in ziua in care il intalneste pe contele Bussy d'Amboise, un protestant cunoscut, de care se indragosteste.

Cei patruzeci si cinci

Romanul „Cei Patruzeci si Cinci“ a fost scris între anii 1847 si 1848. Actiunea se petrece între 1585 si 1586, treisprezece ani dupa masacrul din noaptea Sfântului Bartolomeu, când Franta este înca în plina tensiune si agitatie din cauza “razboiului religiilor” si a luptei pentru putere.
Perioada tumultuoasa a secolului al XVI-lea i-a oferit lui Dumas o cantitate mare de material istoric; el a ales sa urmareasca în romanul sau trei piste principale ale evolutiei politice si sociale ale acelor vremuri: evenimentele tulburi din Paris, ascensiunea la putere a lui Henric al IV-lea de Navara si deruta ducelui d’Anjou, în Flandra.
Intriga complexa, personajele puternice cu interese clare dar incompatibile, scenele de razboi alternate cu cele de dragoste, reusesc sa întregeasca aceasta capodopera, pe drept cuvânt una dintre cele mai valoroase din portofoliul autorului.

Cei trei muschetari

Poate cel mai popular roman al lui Alexandre Dumas tatal, „Cei trei muschetari” a fost publicat prima data în primavara anului 1844.
În centrul povestirii se afla tânarul d’Artagnan al carui mare vis este acela de a deveni muschetar al regelui Ludovic al XIII-lea. Titlul romanului se refera, însa, la cei pe care d’Artagnan si-i va face în scurt timp prieteni: muschetarii Athos, Porthos si Aramis.
Actiunea este plasata la începutul anilor 1620, când cardinalul Richelieu interzise duelurile.
Abia sosit la Paris, tânarul gascon d’Artagnan pare sa nu tina cont de asta. El devine chiar celebru în marele oras în urma unui duel, caci vestea vitejiei lui va ajunge repede si la urechile regelui.
Romanul, unul de aventuri, dar în acelasi timp romantic, este scris cu mult umor.
Potrivit unei fise de biblioteca, ce s-a pastrat pâna astazi, se dovedeste ca Dumas s-a inspirat pentru aceasta scriere din „Memoriile domnului d’Artagnan”, de Gatien de Courtilz de Sandras (Köln, 1700), carte pe care a împrumutat-o din biblioteca publica din Marsilia.
Povestea lui d’Artagnan este continuata în romanele „Dupa 20 de ani” si „Vicontele de Bragelonne”.

Dupa douazeci de ani

Suntem in anul 1648. A trecut multa vreme de cand eroii romanului "Cei trei muschetari" nu s-au mai intalnit.
D'Artagnan, ramas locotenent al muschetarilor, isi doreste gradul de capitan.
Cardinalul Mazarin, tinta a atacurilor din partea nobilimii, a Parlamentului si a populatiei Parisului, ii cere sa-si caute vechii prieteni si sa-i atraga de partea sa.
Insotit de fostul sau valet, Planchet, acum partizan al Frondei, d'Artagnan porneste in calatorie. Rand pe rand, isi viziteaza fostii camarazi.
Aramis este acum abatele d'Herblay, dar pare mai atras ca oricand de intrigi si de batalii.
Porthos, devenit un bogat senior de provincie, viseaza la titlul de baron.
Athos s-a retras la tara si pare preocupat numai de educatia tanarului Raoul, viconte de Bragelonne.
Primind misiunea de a impiedica evadarea printului de Beaufort, d'Artagnan si Porthos se vad nevoiti sa se confrunte chiar cu vechii lor prieteni, Athos si Aramis, aflati acum in tabara adversa.
Va rezista legatura sufleteasca dintre ei acestei grele incercari, sau ambitiile si sentimentul datoriei ii vor transforma in dusmani?
